Decreasing Boot Time
by Dayzed on Sunday July 9th
To many of us, boot time is a special time. A time when we don't want to be waiting for the damn thing to boot -- we want it to boot as fast as possible so we can get that browser up and waste excessive amounts of time doing trivial **** on the internet :D
In this guide I will show you how to shave precious seconds off of your boot time. By doing the things in this guide you should be able to boot at least 3 seconds faster if not more (you can definitely get far more; it all depends on your setup).
Here we go:
1.) Take away those unwanted (un-needed) Windows graphical effects.
~Go to Control Panel and click on 'System'
~Click the 'Advanced' tab
~Under performance, click on 'Settings'
~Click the 'Adjust For Best Performance' box
~Click 'Apply' and then hit 'OK'
2.) Set your color quality to 16bit.
This may not be a big hit for gamers, but it can really ramp up overall system performance as well as boot time. If you aren't gaming (or are a gamer who doesn't mind lower quality), then you can handle it.
~Go to Control Panel and click on 'display'
~Click the settings tab
~In the color quality drop down box, select '16 bit'
~Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
3.

U.S Government requires ISP data retention
by Athena on Friday June 2nd
The director of the FBI, along with the Attorney General had a meeting with several reps from companies such as Verizon, AOL, Comcast, and Microsoft to discuss data retention. They want them to keep records of who does what on the internet as much as they can with existing laws, or they may push legislation to do so.
The New York Times covers this in more detail.
While initial proposals were vague, executives from companies that attended the meeting said they gathered that the department was interested in records that would allow them to identify which individuals visited certain Web sites and possibly conducted searches using certain terms.
It also wants the Internet companies to retain records about whom their users exchange e-mail with, but not the contents of e-mail messages, the executives said. The executives spoke on the condition that they not be identified because they did not want to offend the Justice Department.

I'm Dr. House, and today is the coolest day of my life! *exposes patient's testicles*
by Twilight on Friday May 26th
Ahh, House M.D.. It's about a sarcastic, drug addicted doctor, Gregory House, who carries a cane because of his leg. He and his team of doctors (Cameron, Foreman, Chase) try to solve unusual cases in hospital patients. There's also Dr.Cuddy, head of the hospital, and the neurologist and House's friend Dr. Wilson. House is an asshole, Cameron's the nice one, Foreman's an asshole (but he's a black asshole) and Chase is Austrailian. Woop-dee-doo.
